News and Articles on Lactate dehydrogenase

Klebsiella pneumoniae triggers a cytotoxic effect on airway epithelial cells  Aug 3, 2009
Cytotoxicity was analysed by lactate dehydrogenase and formazan measurements, ethidium bromide uptake and analysis of DNA integrity, obtaining consistent and complementary results. Moreover, cytotoxicity of non-capsulated strains was restored by addition of purified capsule during infection. (BioMed Central)

Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Kidney Injury  Jul 2, 2009
g., creatine kinase, aldolase, lactate dehydrogenase, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase) into the circulation. Massive necrosis, which is manifested as limb weakness, myalgia, swelling, and, commonly, gross pigmenturia without hematuria, is the common denominator of both traumatic and nontraumatic rhabdomyolysis. (New England Journal of Medicine)

Rapid glycation with D-ribose induces globular amyloid-like aggregations of BSA with high cytotoxicity to SH-SY5Y cells  Feb 13, 2009
As observed by Hoechst 33258 staining, 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity assay, flow cytometry using Annexin V and Propidium Iodide staining and reactive oxygen species (ROS) measurements, the amyloid-like aggregation of glycated BSA induced apoptosis in the neurotypic cell line SH-SY5Y.. Conclusions. (BioMed Central)

Levels of Circulating Tumor Cells Could Predict Prostate Cancer Outcome  Feb 13, 2009
They studied the association between CTC numbers (before and after treatment) and survival, along with other factors such as changes in levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and baseline lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in 164 prostate cancer patients starting first-line chemotherapy regimens. High values of CTC numbers and PSA levels before treatment were associated with increased risk of death. (MEDLINEplus)

Discovery Fleshes Out Metabolism Of Key Environmental And Energy Bacteria  Feb 12, 2009
"Since this is the first multi-protein lactate dehydrogenase found in bacteria, we had to prove that all three proteins worked together." ... Together, the three proteins make up an enzyme called L-lactate dehydrogenase ... Until this discovery, researchers had only found examples of L-lactate dehydrogenase made up of one protein, setting Shewanella's enzyme apart. (Science Daily)
