    Woodbury's Rupert Recognized for Work as Therapy Animal  May 21, 2008
    In a letter to the AKC, Tom and Nancy Kenney credited Rupert with much of the progress made by their three-and-a-half-year-old son, Jack, since his diagnosis 18 months ago with a neurological disorder called Landau-Kleffner syndrome. An extremely rare form of epilepsy, Landau-Kleffner syndrome affects the part of the brain that controls speech and comprehension, causing loss of language skills. (Voices, CT)

    On Sept. 21, 2005, she was diagnosed with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, a disorder characterized by continuous seizures that impact speech and language functions. The condition has no known cure, though Scearce is finishing up a six-month regiment of high-dose steroids that halted the seizures but exacted a difficult physical toll. (Herald Sun)
