Woodbury's Rupert Recognized for Work as Therapy Animal May 21, 2008 In a letter to the AKC, Tom and Nancy Kenney credited Rupert with much of the progress made by their three-and-a-half-year-old son, Jack, since his diagnosis 18 months ago with a neurological disorder called Landau-Kleffner syndrome. An extremely rare form of epilepsy, Landau-Kleffner syndrome affects the part of the brain that controls speech and comprehension, causing loss of language skills. (Voices, CT)
Swim league championships fun for all ages Jul 9, 2006 On Sept. 21, 2005, she was diagnosed with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, a disorder characterized by continuous seizures that impact speech and language functions. The condition has no known cure, though Scearce is finishing up a six-month regiment of high-dose steroids that halted the seizures but exacted a difficult physical toll. (Herald Sun)
