Ginger extract inhibits LPS induced macrophage activation and function Jan 4, 2008
We observed that ginger extract inhibited IL-12, TNF-alpha, IL-1 (pro inflammatory cytokines) and RANTES, MCP-1 (pro inflammatory chemokines) production in LPS stimulated macrophages. Ginger extract also down regulated the expression of B7. (BioMed Central)
Progenics Presents Additional Positive Clinical Results for HIV-Entry Inhibitor PRO 140 at International AIDS Meeting Jul 25, 2007
There was no significant change in blood levels of RANTES (regulated upon activation, normal T-cell expressed and secreted) after PRO 140 treatment. RANTES is a chemokine molecule that is produced naturally by the body and binds to CCR5 on immune system cells. (BusinessWire)
Association of TGFB1, TNFa, CCR2 and CCR5 gene polymorphisms in chronic renal insufficiency among Asian Indians with type-2 diabetes Apr 12, 2007
Transforming growth factor B1 (TGFB1) induces renal hypertrophy and fibrosis, and cytokines like tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFa), chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and regulated upon activation and normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES) mediate macrophage infiltration into kidney ... The effect of MCP1 and RANTES on kidney is conferred by their receptors i.e., chemokine receptor-2(CCR2) and CCR-5 respectively. (BioMed Central)
Researchers find predictor of mortality in cardiac patients Feb 21, 2007
In a group of men undergoing coronary angiography, low baseline levels of RANTES (Regulated upon Activation, Normal T-cell Expressed, and Secreted), also known as CCL5, were shown to be an independent predictor of cardiac mortality. RANTES is a chemokine produced by a variety of cell types including blood platelets that has been implicated in atherosclerosis ... Erdal Cavusoglu, MD, assistant professor of medicine at SUNY Downstate, and colleagues measured baseline RANTES levels in 389 male... (EurekAlert!)
Research uncovers signaling pathways related to brain-immune system links May 16, 2006
The truncated NK-IR did not respond directly to substance P, but worked through another signaling molecule, the chemokine RANTES, to increase the calcium flow. The RANTES molecule is important because it binds to another cell receptor, CCR5, which is crucial in allowing common strains of HIV (R5 strains) to infect immune cells. (EurekAlert!)
Red wine fights periodontal disease Mar 14, 2006
IL-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-), and Regulated on Activation Normal T-cell Expressed and Secreted (RANTES) production by macrophages treated with the cranberry fraction prior to stimulation by LPS was evaluated by ELISA. Results clearly indicate that the cranberry fraction was a potent inhibitor of the pro-inflammatory cytokine and chemokine responses induced by LPS. This suggests that cranberry constituents may offer perspectives for the development of a new therapeutic approach... (Actualit?s News Environnement)
