Ticks can transmit a number of infections, including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever - or RMSF. A friend of mine has recently been seriously ill with RMSF.. He is not aware of having a tick on him but may have been infected when he pulled a tick off a dog with his bare hand and the bacteria got into a cut or scratch on his hand (Fort Wayne News Sentinel, IN)
