Sep 24, 2009 On Sept. 14 we ran a PROBE question asking about the future of the 30th annual Farm Worker Appreciation Breakfast in Calexico. We had received a letter from a concerned citizen that there was talk the event would not be held this year because of a lack of funding. At the time, Elvira Anaya, co-chairwoman of the Imperial County Farmworker Services Coalition, the agency that puts on the breakfast, said there was no money to stage the event and that the coalition would meet to further discuss the issue. I am eagerly looking for employment but have not been successful. Unfortunately, due to this I am experiencing difficulties with making payments on several medical bills. I was informed by an employee at a local hospital that a law was passed some time ago that is titled the charity law. It is my understanding that this law assists U.S. citizens with the payment of medical bills. I would like to know if this information is true and if so, why aren’t struggling citizens informed of this existing law when they are seeking treatment at a hospital. They would not accept my closed container; they have a huge container you have to empty yours into because my container would not fit into theirs. What’s the sense of buying sharps containers if they can’t be dropped off as is? But what about those in law enforcers? I think officers, more than anyone else, should be providing a good example of not using their cell phones while driving. Do they think that just because they are officers they can do that? I think they should get tickets like everybody else.
